BIOPOLYMERS: SOURCES, TRANSFORMATION, PRODUCTION AND INNOVATING APPLICATIONS

BACKGROUND:

 

In 2008, in the city of Veracruz, Mexico, took place very successfully the first edition of this initiative from FESI's Engineering and Scientific and Technological Innovation Division. Thanks to the interest the event raised in the scientific community and others innovation actors since its launching, it was worldwide widespread. An achievement we would like to emphasize from the aforementioned event is that we could reunite in it: Top level scientists as well as biopolymer producing companies, and enthusiast students interested in making a career or already being trained in the area.

 Biopolymeric Materials Engineering (BIOPMAT), eIs a project that circumscribes within the world trends denominated "Green Chemistry" and also within the one known as "Engineering for life".

 Biopolymers, The expression is used to describe a series of materials that can be classified in two categories, mainly:

- Polymers produced by biological systems such as microorganisms, plants and animals; and
- Polymers chemically synthesized but derived from initial biological materials such as amino acids, sugars, natural lipids, or oils.

 Biopolymeric materials are renewable, biodegradable and biocompatible, reason why their future and present applications are only limited by our imagination. Some applications are: adhesives, packages, adsorbents, lubricants, soil conditioners, cosmetics, fabrics, structural materials, computer information storage hardware, implants, etc. Because of its many applications, the conference's nature claims a trans-disciplinary approach.

CONFERENCE'S GENERAL OBJECTIVE: Attract individuals who take part of an innovation SYSTEM: HEI'S research personnel (faculty and management), staff and management of R&D centers and companies interested or working in the biopolymers field, and government entities. This includes experts with a solid scientific trajectory, as well as the new engineers and scientists generation, in order to, within the conference, interact and acquire an enriched vision for the participation in the specialized NETWORK generated during the event through the ideas, expertise and knowledge exchange, which hopefully will result in benefits to their organizations and countries as well.

PARTICULAR OBJECTIVE: Create a platform to constitute a biopolymers research group of the International Higher Education Foundation (FESI) and members of the NETWORK which we will name from the conference and on BIOPMAT. 

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE: Researchers and executive from Industry, public and private Higher Education Institutions, R&D managers, faculty in charge of R&D activities, Government Research and Development centers working or interested in getting involved in the field.

 Students from the following programs (not exclusive): Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Engineers, Medicine, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Economy, Biology, Business Management, etc. Specially, though not restrictive, we invite students who wish to make a engineering or scientific career in the biopolymers area.

CALL FOR PAPERS OPEN. Also For conferences, workshops, regarding the BIOPOLYMERS' sources, transformation, production and innovating applications. Mainly in the fields of: Biomedicine, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Tissues' Engineering, Food, Bioinformatics, Bioeconomy, Cosmetology, Pharmacy, and Environment.
